Benjamin Murphy

At the City of London Corporation’s meeting of the Court of Common Council on 23rd April 2026, Ben Murphy was successfully re-elected to the Policy and Resources Committee for a second 4-year term.

The Policy and Resources Committee is a corporate committee responsible for governance arrangements, recommending its strategic priorities, agreeing policy, allocating overall resources and overseeing the City’s security and emergency planning arrangements. It is the most senior of all of the Corporation’s 26 Grand Committees and Boards.

The Committee is also tasked with directing the City Corporation’s economic development initiatives and the activities associated with the promotion of the City of London as the world’s leading international financial and business centre (both here and abroad) and as a place within which to do business.

In comparing the City Corporation to traditional forms of local government, this Committee is akin to a Cabinet, with its Chair being the political Leader.

In addition to his constituency responsibilities in Bishopsgate, Ben also sits on a number of other Grand Committees and Boards, including the City of London Police Authority Board, Local Policing Committee, Finance Committee, Natural Environment Board, Epping Forest and Commons Committee and the West Ham Park Committee. Ben is also appointed to the Policy and Resources Income Generation Working Party and the Finance Efficiency and Performance Working Party and Chairs the City Corporation’s Projects and Procurement Sub-Committee, currently leading the Corporation’s Transformation Programme.
