Each year in the City of London, the Lord or Lady Mayor hosts ‘City Giving Day‘, which is an opportunity for businesses across the Square Mile to give something back to good causes they have links to, or to support the Lord Mayor’s Appeal directly.
It is a unique annual event celebrating volunteering and philanthropy. Each participating business can create its own day of activity. Things like :
- Fundraising events (cycle challenges, bake sales)
- Showcasing the work of your charity partners
- Volunteering with charity partners or running mentoring sessions for charities or young people.
Or you can take part in one of the City Giving Day events organised by The Lord Mayor’s Appeal. Things like:
- Tour de City Static Wattbike Challenge
- City Walk
- Treasure Hunt
- Quiz Night
This is Corporate Social Responsibility at its core. Encouraging employees to come together for a common cause which helps others in society flourish.
The Lord Mayor’s Appeal reminds us that more than 10,000 people have slept rough on the streets of London in the last year, 4 in 10 Londoners have less income than needed for basic living and in 2022/23, approximately 384,477 people used a foodbank in London, an increase of 99,790 when compared to the previous year.
I recently joined the Lady Mayor of London, Dame Susan Langley, at one of the City Giving Day breakfast briefings at Mansion House. Interested businesses were able to explore how the programme works and ways they can get involved.
I’m particularly grateful to all of the Bishopsgate businesses who have already signed up to host a range of engagement events, supporting good causes. If anyone else is interested, you can register here.
