Liverpool Street – Crossrail Update

It’s been good to catch-up with colleagues at Transport for London today to get an update on the developments of Crossrail.

The Liverpool Street Elizabeth line station was officially been transferred to Transport for London in July 2021. Liverpool Street is the fifth of the new Elizabeth line stations to transfer and the station is now ready for the next stage of the extensive commissioning process, which will prepare it for Trial Operations. Trial Operations is the final phase of testing involving trials to ensure the safety and reliability of the railway for public use. This includes real-time testing of evacuations of trains and stations before opening the Elizabeth line.

The Liverpool Street Elizabeth line station will open when the central section opens, which is currently planned for the first half of 2022. Currently all work has been completed and access routes/public realm around the Broadgate entrance are open.

I know there have been long delays with the delivery of this project and expensive costs, but it finally feels like the end is in sight. It will be such a huge benefit to Bishopsgate to have this additional connectivity which has been part-funded by the City of London Corporation and Crossrail has worked with the City Corporation to improve the highway and public realm around the Elizabeth line ticket halls in the Square Mile. New forecourts and plazas around both entrances to Liverpool Street Elizabeth line station will provide pedestrian-friendly, accessible spaces with wider pavements.

You can follow the progress updates and some virtual tours of the station online here.
