Bishopsgate: Devonshire Row Pedestrian Zone – Proposed Changes to Operational Hours

I am writing to let you know of an upcoming statutory consultation for proposed changes to the operational hours of the Devonshire Row pedestrian zone in your Ward. The attached letter and plan will be sent to all occupiers in the affected zones on 13th November to notify them of the proposal and the commencement of the statutory consultation process.

In October 2024, the City of London Corporation’s Court of Common Council agreed to review all Traffic Orders in the Square Mile. It tasked the Streets and Walkways Sub-Committee to carry out the review, which originally recommended that the operating times of six pedestrian zones be changes.

In Bishopsgate, only Devonshire Row falls into this category. The original proposal was to amend the current time from 8am to 6pm to 7am to 9pm, however, following consultation with businesses and residents earlier this year, it was felt that there was a need to retain vehicular access to Devonshire Row for deliveries. Therefore, the updated proposal is to change from 8am to 6pm to 8am to 9pm. This would then support pedestrian safety during rush hour and the busy night-time economy in that particularly narrow alleyway/road.

A copy of the formal consultation letter is available below. If you have any issues or wish to discuss this proposal further, please do let me know.
